5 Health and Wellness Tips to Practice During the COVID-19 Crisis

staying healthy covid-19

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, people across the globe need to suddenly stay inside and isolate. With little to do except wait, now is the perfect time to focus on your health!

With the virus, isolation, and uncertainty, these wellness tips may help you through. Protect your body and nourish your mind to keep well.

Stay Healthy With 5 Wellness Tips

Do all you can to keep yourself physically and mentally sound during the COVID-19 crisis. Read on to learn 5 tips for staying healthy.

1. Eat Well

Try not to stress eat or munch out of boredom. Eat small, healthy snacks every 3-4 hours, rather than 3 big meals, to keep up your metabolism.

Listen to your body. Stop eating when you feel satiated, not full.

Though you stocked up on a ton of grains and canned food, prepare fresh meals while grocery stores remain open. Make healthy soups, homemade sauces, and other healthy foods that you can freeze now and use later if we do lose regular access to stores.

And, make sure to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables to build a healthy immune system.

If you feel especially stressed out about current events, opt for foods that lift your mood by raising levels of your feel-good neurotransmitters. Try buddha bowls with lots of leafy greens and beans, raw cashews in a salad, or a berry smoothie.

2. Group Fitness

Do not let closed gyms and social distancing keep you from working out in a motivated group! Use Zoom for group fitness! This technology connects you with others from the safety of your own home!

You do not need gym equipment for an intense workout! Put on music and flow through exercises like crunches, leg lifts, planks, pushups, mountain climbers, knee-highs, etc.

Many people with neck and back pain may find these more intense exercises difficult. Gentle yoga stretches will still keep your muscles healthy and fit.

As always, consult your doctor before starting a new exercise regime.

3. Stay Connected

COVID-19 creates substantial stress for everybody. The need to isolate yourself only adds to it. Keep yourself connected to others by calling daily. Video chat with others and play a game or do something crafty together over a glass of wine.

Find creative ways to stay connected with your loved ones. This is one of the most important health and wellness tips to get you through.

4. Wash Your Hands

Want to know how to stay healthy during COVID-19? Constantly wash your hands with soap and water. Wash before going to the store and as soon as you leave. This may sound redundant, but clean hands can literally save your life. Even continuously wash at home, especially after grabbing delivery packages.

5. Sleep

Staying healthy at home means getting proper rest. Even if you cannot work, do not use it as an excuse to stay up all night. Lack of sleep will impact your ability to fight off germs, making you more susceptible to COVID-19 and other illnesses. It also increases your anxiety.

Keep a regular schedule, take a bath with calming oils, like eucalyptus or lavender, and turn off electronics at night. Keep your day at home productive and then shoot for 7-9 hours of sleep at night.

Stay Well

Do not simply strive to survive this crisis. Follow these wellness tips so you come out feeling healthy and whole.
