Knee pain can disrupt your whole life and is a leading cause of disability for many older adults.  At some point in life, most people will suffer from knee pain because the knee joints are complicated and are involved in weight bearing, bending and side-to-side movements.  The knees do a lot of heavy work for the body: sitting down, standing up, walking, running, climbing stairs, and more.  Some patients suffer from chronic knee pain that includes weakness, instability, and swelling, and others suffer from knee pain that is so severe they have to stop favorite as well as typical everyday activities.

Knee pain should not be ignored, especially if it is affecting your ability to walk or is causing a limp.  When knee pain first occurs trying the RICE method of rest, ice, compression, and elevation may be used.  However, if the pain isn’t better in two to three weeks, then get an examination.  Never delay an evaluation and treatment if you have had to change your lifestyle because of knee pain.

Causes of Knee Pain

Every year, thousands of people need treatment for knee pain caused by arthritis, bursitis, a tear in the meniscus, sprains and strains, knee injury, wear and tear, and other conditions.  Knee pain can also be caused by problems somewhere else in the body like the low back, hip, and ankle.

Dr. Busch has researched many treatment technologies that would complement the patient’s care at the Busch Chiropractic Pain Center, and he has developed a successful knee pain treatment protocol, the Busch Stem Cell Stimulation Protocol™.  This protocol is a successful alternative treatment to pain medications injections and surgery for many conditions causing knee pain.

Treatment Alternative to Pain Medications

When a patient uses pain medications over time the drugs can become ineffective and can cause other harmful side effects of not only addiction, but psychological dependency, becoming lethargic, sleep problems, and can even affect hormone production.  Pain medications do not treat the cause of knee pain, and if there is any relief it is from masking the pain, and relief is only temporary.

Treatment Alternative to Steroid Knee Injections

When physical therapy and pain medications haven’t helped, it is common to have corticosteroid medications injected into the knee. While some patients have some relief, it is short-lived, and corticosteroid injections are known to damage cartilage. The destruction of cartilage will lead to accelerated joint deterioration.

Treatment Alternative to Hyaluronic Acids Knee Injections

Patients who have had little or no results from physical therapy, pain pills, and steroid injections may have the treatment of hyaluronic acids injections in an attempt to lubricate their knee joints.  However, the outcomes are not consistent and definitely not as effective for older patients. Patients may have to have injections weekly for 5 to 6 weeks and “there are higher risks of adverse events”. Common side effects are swelling, stiffness, fluid buildup, and even ulcerations. There are mixed opinions on recommendations, like the following:  “Injections of hyaluronic acids may provide little or no pain relief or function improvement in patients with knee osteoarthritis, according to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).

Treatment Alternative to Knee Surgery

Knee replacement surgery is a very painful procedure and involves cutting out bone and cartilage and replacing with metal and plastic implants.  The surgery has a lengthy recovery time and is not without the risks of continuing knee pain, permanent loss of mobility, joint stiffness, infections, replacement or redo knee surgeries are very likely in the future, and other surgical risks.

Here is what one of our many patients has to say about our knee pain treatment

busch chiropractic fort wayne review“When I came to see Dr. Busch, I was having so much pain that I could hardly walk up and down steps at all.  I had to have help from my husband and another gentleman just to get up five steps and I was worried I wasn’t going to be able to get back down because my knees hurt so badly. When I would sit at a table for a short time, like to eat lunch, and then to get up I would have to stand there for a good minute before I could take that first step. Then after a first step I could walk pretty well.

I had seen a specialist, and I had had shots in my knees, and I had been doing that for about five to six years. The last time I had shots it didn’t do any good at all. I knew if I saw a doctor (again) about my knees I would have to have surgery.

After knee treatments (at Busch Chiropractic) there is a WORLD of DIFFERENCE!!  We just got back from Florida and we walked all over Epcot, walked up and down stairs ALL day and I had NO PAIN whatsoever!!
I would ABSOLUTELY recommend the knee treatments to anyone facing a knee surgery or that has knee pain!" -LK
