When you do something well, word travels fast and that is exactly how Joe heard about the Busch Chiropractic Center. Joe had definitely heard about Busch Chiropractic Pain Center, and even though he lived 2.5 hours away, he was willing to make the drive, if Dr. Busch thought he could help Joe.

Joe had suffered from a low back condition (degenerative disc disease) and had tried conservative care such as chiropractic, physical therapy and pain medications. When that didn’t work, he gave up and had a spinal fusion. For the last two years, he continually suffered from moderate to severe low back pain, left hip and thigh pain.

Joe absolutely did not want to have another surgery, because his recovery was so difficult and he ended up right back where he started. So he decided to use the internet to research options other than surgery. When Joe got to Dr. Busch he was miserable with constant pain and was having difficulty standing, sitting and walking. He was also having cramping in his leg. He was constantly taking one prescription or another trying to get some relief. He took Norflex, muscle relaxers, Tylenol or whatever was available at the time. Joe was relieved when Dr. Busch said he was confident – after a thorough examination and a review of Joe’s films – that the DRS Protocol™ would help him.

With a willingness to stay in a hotel during the week, Joe began treating and today he is walking and moving much, much better. The 2.5 hour car ride was not an issue. Joe is doing better than he ever expected. And he is so happy he didn’t have to have another surgery. His wife is also very happy to have him back to being able to walk and be active, because she was getting bored shopping by herself while they were in town!

Sciatica or sciatic pain is symptom of a back problem, and it is not a diagnosis of the actual problem itself. Sciatic pain refers to pain along the length of the sciatic nerve, the largest nerve in the body. The sciatic nerve branches off your spine at the pelvis and travels down each leg. A problem at the root of this nerve, where the nerve exits the spine, may be felt along the entire length of the leg and can cause leg weakness. Sciatic pain can be severe and debilitating.

Patients often misinterpret this as a problem with their legs, when the primary cause is the result of a bulging disc compressing a nerve at the base of their spine. Sometimes, with severe inflammation, pain will also be felt in the hips and buttocks.

Here is a general list of symptoms

Constant pain in only one side of the buttock or leg – generally does not occur in both legs

Pain may be worse when sitting

Burning or tingling down the leg is more like that a dull ache

Hard to move your leg or foot, you can also have weakness and numbness

Constant pain on one side of the buttocks

Difficult to stand up or to walk

Sciatic pain is successfully treated at the Busch Chiropractic Pain Center, Fort Wayne IN, with DRS Protocol™ when the underlying cause or diagnosis is a disc condition such as herniated and degenerative disc (s).

Four pharmaceutical makers are developing a stronger version of hydrocodone – the second most abused pain medication in the US. The first most abused is Oxycodone. Experts on addiction are very worried that this will create even more abuse of pain pills; addicts could crush the product for a potentially lethal high. The president of the National Coalition Against Prescription Drug Abuse said, “We just don’t need this on the market.” Critics say they are troubled because of the dark side that has accompanied the boom in sales of narcotic painkillers: Murders, pharmacy robberies and millions of dollars lost by hospitals that must treat overdose victims.

The new pain medication contains the painkiller hydrocodone – which is highly addictive – and the new pain medication can have 10 times the amount of hydrocodone in pain pills such as Vicodin. The product is awaiting approval, and if that happens, it will be the first time patients can legally have pure hydrocodone. Now most pain pills add the non-addictive painkillers like acetaminophen.

According to the co-founder of Advocates for the – Reform of Prescription Opioids, ”It’s like the wild west.” Peter Jackson states, “The whole supply-side system is set up to perpetuate this massive unloading of opioid narcotics on the American public.”

The pharmaceutical companies say the new pain medication will offer another tool for those who are legitimately in pain. The companies say the pure hydrocodone will avoid potential liver problems that are linked to high doses of acetaminophen – an ingredient in products like Vicodin. Patients will be closely supervised by law, and each time the patient needs a refill, it would require another office visit. Weaker prescriptions such as hydrocodone -acetaminophen products can be refilled up to five times.

One manufacturer has had a final meeting with the FDA and plans to have the product on the market by 2013.

“You’ve got a person on your product for life, and a doctor’s got a patient who’s never going to miss an appointment, because if they did and they didn’t get their prescription, they would feel very sick,” said Andrew Kolodny, president of Physicians for Responsible Opioid Prescribing. “It’s a terrific business model, and that’s what these companies want to get in on.”

The Drug Enforcement Administration, which enforces controls on medicines along with the FDA, said it could not comment on drugs that have not yet been approved for sale.

What do you think about this type of pain medication being developed? Let us know.

Cervical Radiculopathy is a term that describes radiating nerve pain that can start with a disc problem such as herniated or degenerative discs in your neck (cervical) area. Your pain can run down into your shoulder, into your arm and on into your hands and fingers. Along with the pain, you can also experience numbness, tingling and weakness. Certain of your muscle groups can have weakness, and your range-of-motion can be impaired and you could even have a problem simply looking from side to side.

Your neck is your “cervical” area of the spine. Each level of your cervical area is referred to as C-1 through C-8. Each level affects other parts of your body. A general description of what can be affected is as follows:

C1 through C3 can cause headaches and very possibly dizziness. You may also have numbness and tingling in the neck and upper back. This can also affects shoulder and upper chest muscles.

C4 and C5 affects the muscles of your shoulder, upper chest and surface area of your shoulder, upper arm and can cause you have to have loss of sensation and cause numbness. This can be a cause of referred pain into areas of your upper back

C6 affects the outside part of your elbow, forearm, your thumb, index finger and flexors of your elbow; this can cause referred pain into areas of your upper back

C7 and C8 affects the inside part of your elbow, your forearm including the small ring and long fingers, and the intrinsic muscles in your hand, and can cause referred pain into areas of your upper back

Above is a diagram illustrating many areas that can be affected by problems from your neck. Conditions such herniated and degenerative disc disease can be successfully treated with the DRS Protocol™. This treatment was developed by Dr. Richard Busch at Busch Chiropractic Pain Center in Fort Wayne IN.

George started having intense low back pain, leg pain and hip pain over a year ago. It happened when he tried to start his lawn mower. At times, his pain was bad enough pain (5/10) that he was devouring Ibuprofen. The pain was ruling his life. He couldn’t sleep. He had trouble standing, walking and sitting. There just wasn’t anything he could do that pain wasn’t involved.

Later that winter, he got worse because he shoveled snow. The breaking point was when George had to be in the car for a long drive, and he knew he was in even worse trouble. He had to almost peel himself out of his car after a day of driving. His pain level had escalated to a 9/10. Then George started living on Vicodin and Nsaids. He knew he needed help fast, and yet he never had found out what was causing his problems; he knew he did not want injections or surgery.

George had a friend who had a great success treating with the DRS Protocol™ at the Busch Chiropractic Pain Center, Fort Wayne IN. His friend had talked and talked to George about seeing Dr. Richard Busch because it really seemed George had problems similar to his friend’s.

George called the Busch Chiropractic Pain Center, and because he was in such terrible pain, he was scheduled as soon as possible. After reviewing the X-rays and exam findings, Dr. Busch told George he had a bulging disc related to degenerative disc disease, and he could be successfully treated. George couldn’t wait to start treatment with the DRS Protocol™, and he was right. After a short time, his pain levels were diminished, and he could drive longer. He was ecstatic because he no longer takes Vicodin and Ibuprofen on a daily basis. George is a very happy patient and tells all his friends that if they even think they have a disc problem – don’t wait – go see Dr. Busch. The DRS Protocol™ works, and it is pain-free, and you can keep working. However, you may want to be careful shoveling snow, but that just makes sense.

If you or someone you love have ongoing and unresolved back pain, why not learn more about Busch Chiropractic Pain Center and the DRS Protocol™? If you want to call it is toll-free – 1-888-471-4090.

When patients come to the Busch Chiropractic Pain Center, Fort Wayne IN, because they have symptoms such as burning, numbness, tingling, and pain in the back or neck, they often say they have a pinched nerve. They may have been seen by other doctors, and many times the explanation is simply that they have a pinched nerve. These symptoms can be debilitating, and in some cases surgery was recommended.

Pinched nerve is a rather general term that really is compression of your nerves, whether it is an individual nerve or a group of nerves. The cause can be from several reasons. The most common would a bulging or herniated disc. The areas of your spine most likely affected would be your neck or your low back, because this is where there is the most movement or flexibility.

Pinched nerves at the L5 level (very low area of your spine) will cause pain, burning, and numbness down the inside of your thigh, leg and go to your big toe. Pinched nerves at your S1 level (the lowest part of your spine) can cause pain going down the outside of your leg in to your ankle and the side and even the sole of your foot. Sometimes you could experience all of the symptoms, or your symptoms may vary depending on what nerve or nerves are affected or “pinched”.

There can be many approaches for treatment. Dr. Richard Busch has treated thousands of patients for problems that cause pinched nerves with the DRS Protocol™. This is a drug-free, noninvasive treatment that really addresses the problem causing the symptoms.

Failed Back Surgery Syndrome is a name for continued chronic, complicated problems and pain after you have had back or neck surgery. Failed Back Surgery Syndrome can be caused by the surgery itself, and it can even cause entirely new problems for the patient. The only way to avoid having a FBSS is by avoiding open back or neck surgery.

The following back and neck surgeries are some of the most common:

Discectomy is removing a herniation of the disc and can require removing a portion of vertebra (the bone in the spine) to access the disk.

Laminectomy is a surgery that removes the bone over the spinal canal. The goal is to enlarge the spinal canal. This performed for spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal and can cause pain from nerve pressure).

Spinal fusion permanently connects two or more bones in your spine. It is intended to add stability and eliminate motion.

Traditional medical treatment for FBBS can be physical therapy, nerve blocks, TENS units, anti-inflammatories, NSAIDs, pain medications, epidurals, pain pumps, spinal cord stimulators and anti-depressants.

To treat patients who are suffering with pain and other symptoms from herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, facet syndrome and even Failed Back Surgery Syndrome, Dr. Richard Busch, Busch Chiropractic, Fort Wayne IN, developed the DRS Protocol™ and has successfully treated thousands of patients. The DRS Protocol™ is noninvasive, drug-free, and risk-free. Patients don’t have to worry about recovery time, loss of work, and potential long-term side effects from surgery such as scar tissue and continuing pain.

In the past two decades, spinal surgeries have significantly increased due to multiple factors. Many medical experts acknowledge complications from the surgeries can reduce the success of these surgeries in both the short and long term, and seriously affect the quality of life for the patient.

The authors used database information from 2005 to 2008 of the American College of Surgeons. The database records preoperative information and postoperative complications and death of patients who had surgery in participating facilities in the United States. The data includes a variety of types of surgery.

The study included factors of existing medical conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular problems, age, body mass, and gender.

The study covered 3,475 patients who had received one or more spine operations.

The age range was from 16 to 90 and the average age was 55.5 year

54 percent were men, and 76 percent were Caucasian

The main conditions of the study treated by back surgery were herniated disc, spinal stenosis, and degenerative disc disease (DDD). The study focused on complications and death within 30 days after surgery. So anything that happened after 30 days was not part of the study.

Some of the major complications were blood clots deep in the legs (deep vein thrombosis); life-threatening bacterial infections and deep wound infections; and addition surgeries. Considered by the study to be more minor complications were pneumonia, nonlife-threatening wound infections, and urinary tract infections.

Within 30 days of surgery, 7.6 percent of the patients had developed complications and 10 had died. The study also identified risk factors for developing one or more complications, including death, within the 30-day post surgery:

Patient’s age;

Congestive heart failure and/or a history of heart attack;

Preoperative neurological problems;

History of spinal wound infection;

Use of corticosteroids (e.g. prednisone);

Prolonged surgery times, and other risks

Dr. Richard Busch of the Busch Chiropractic Pain Center, Fort Wayne IN, states, “What we are doing with the DRS Protocol™ is a very successful, noninvasive alternative for treating degenerative disc disease, herniated disc, spinal stenosis, facet syndrome and failed back and neck surgeries. There are no risks such a MRSA, blood clots, recovery time, and the patient can stay on the job. It is definitely safe for senior patients.”

                                                                                                                                                                                                 Dr. Richard E. Busch III, saw the need for better outcomes for those patients who suffer with CIPN, and he implemented the Busch Neuropathy Protocol. For years, he has successfully treated mechanical neuropathy – which can have symptoms of numbness and tingling in hands and arms or feet and legs with the DRS Protocol™ and now can offer care for those with other forms of neuropathy including CIPN. Some of his patients have been dismissed as untreatable and beyond all hope, and yet they found help at the Busch Chiropractic Pain Center, Fort Wayne IN.

Chemo-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy (CIPN) can be a disabling side effect of cancer treatments. It is estimated over 50% of chemotherapy patients have some degree of CIPN. It can be caused by some chemotherapy drugs. Some doctors refer to CIPN as a “price of surviving” cancer: because as more people survive cancer, more people suffer from CIPN.

CIPN is the symptoms from damaged nerves, and these are usually nerves (peripheral nerves) that are farthest away from our central nervous system. Peripheral nerves carry sensations (e.g. feelings of hot/cold touch) to the brain and control the movement of our arms and legs. Although usually affected less by CIPN, the bladder and bowel are also controlled by peripheral nerves.

Why chemotherapy causes CIPN is still in some conjecture. According to the National Cancer Institute, there is evidence that nerves can become sensitized because the concentration of salts in the fluid surrounding them changes, or because the channels that use these salts to trigger nerve impulses become dysfunctional. These, or other changes, may actually damage the nerve structure.

Common symptoms of CIPN can range from:

pain, tingling, burning, coldness, weakness, tickling, or numbness in arms, hands, legs, and feet

sudden, sharp, stabbing, or shocking pain sensations

loss of touch sensation and balance – causing falls

clumsiness, trouble using hands to pick up objects or fasten clothing

hyper-sensitivity to touch

A patient of Dr. Busch, whom we will call John, suffered from many of these symptoms; the worst was not feeling anything with his feet. He was a cancer survivor and had suffered with CIPN for years. He had a terrible time sleeping – as many symptoms escalate at night. He had given up driving. He had almost given up on life.

John had tried most of the common approaches to manage his pain and symptoms: physical therapy, and medications that included steroids, antidepressants, anti-epileptic drugs (Neurontin), and pain pills. But nothing had helped his symptoms, and he had a bad reaction to Neurontin.

After talking this over with his family doctor, John looked into alternative treatments and called Busch Chiropractic Pain Center for assessment of his symptoms and pain for treatment under the Busch Neuropathy Protocol. After a thorough evaluation and examination, John became a patient treating with the Busch Neuropathy Protocol. After a short time treating, John was sleeping all night and back to driving in his local area.
